06/08/2023 - 'Our favourite place' by Alice

This morning, we visited one of our favourite places in the whole world - the hotel where we got married... and it will soon be the setting for our vow renewal part-aay! How could it be anywhere else?? No sad faces allowed - only fun, food, drinks and dancing!

After two years of excitement following the announcement of their engagement, my daughter Rachel married her boyfriend Max this week, and it was a glorious and emotional day. The venue, a farmhouse with converted barns, within the island's West Wight countryside, was gorgeous, and the day was just perfect.  While the ladies were having their hair and make up done at the farmhouse, the men were in the annex trying on our jackets and ties. We could hear them laughing, helped along by prosecco, while we were sorting our button holes and pocket squares between kraken shots. I wore my dad's ring and the cufflinks with Father Of The Bride etched on them that Rachel had given me. I was also presented with a tie that had a photo of the two of us from when she was a baby, printed on the inside. It was a lovely touch, and I couldn't wait to see her in her dress. 02/06/2024 - 'A wobbly week' by David

I think I have come to terms with, and accepted my diagnosis, but every now and again I have a little wobble and this week Alice and I were discussing how my leg strength has really deteriorated in the last two weeks. We were not only discussing how much longer I will be walking, but we also talked about whether the wheelchair we have is adequate as it's only suitable when Alice is around, and as she is still working full time, I may need an electric wheelchair that I can control myself to maintain my independence.   I contacted Gemma, our occupational therapist and she popped round to see me the very next day. She assessed the house for wheelchair accessibility and we discussed the ramps we will need to get in and out of the house, and she has referred me for an electric wheelchair. I have been out every day for the last two weeks and it's probably no coincidence that my legs have suffered as a result. I might have to curtail my public appearances but I also want to do as muc...

24/11/2024 - "Falling and laughing' by David

Well it finally happened. Unfortunately, I had a fall this week. I knew it would happen one day, and I've been very lucky since my diagnosis in July 2023 that despite a few close calls and wobbles, I haven't actually fallen to the ground. It was quite a gentle fall while I was bending down to turn an electric socket on, so I was halfway down already and my legs just gave way. I fell backwards onto my bum and after a few moments, I managed to sit up, shuffle back against a sofa and pull myself up to a standing position again. Apart from a sore behind, I was OK, but it shook me up, and I was sad for the rest of the day. I told Alice, who was upstairs at the time, and we sat talking for a while about the situation, and after a few tears, we decided that I would use a stick inside, and I requested an occupational therapist to come to assess my needs around the house, as my legs and hands are now very weak.  It was such a shame, as the day before (my fall), I was feeling much more p...
